Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs minister, Geoffrey Onyeama has become the latest high profile personality to have contracted the coronavirus disease.

The minister took to his official Twitter handle to announce his results which happened to be his fourth. All the previous three had turned up negative.

The Minister tweeted: 

“Did my fourth Covid-19 test yesterday at the first sign of a throat irritation and unfortunately this time it came back positive. That is life! win some lose some. Heading for isolation in a health facility and praying for the best. #StayHomeSaveLives #COVID19 #PTFCOVID19.”

Nigeria has crossed the 30,000 mark in its confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease. This was after 460 new infections were recorded yesterday.

The country’s economic capital, Lagos leads the pack with 50 cases. This is closely followed by Rivers at 49 and Oyo at 43. Delta recorded 38 and the country’s capital, Abuja had 26.

Others are Anambra-20, Kano-20, Plateau-18, Edo-14, Bayelsa-13, Enugu-13, Osun-12, Kwara-10, Borno-8, Ogun-7, Kaduna-6, Imo-4, Bauchi-3, Gombe-3, Niger-2, Adamawa-1. 

The total death toll as at yesterday is pegged at 684 with total number of recoveries 12,373. This leaves the number of active cases at 17,876.

Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country is grappling to control the spread of the coronavirus disease. It places third in the chart on the African continent only surpassed by South Africa and Egypt.

The state governor of Ebonyi State, south-eastern Nigeria has tested positive for the coronavirus disease. Dave Umahi announced his coronavirus status in a statement on Saturday.

He also revealed that some of his aides have tested positive for the deadly pandemic as the number of cases rises in his state.

Although he is asymptomatic at the moment, the governor stated that he has gone into self-isolation in tandem with safety protocols given by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The governor also mentioned that he would be participating in meetings virtually. He also entreated all his state residents to observe the safety measures in place to forestall the escalation of the pandemic.

Dave Umahi joins a growing list of state governors who had contracted the disease with some even infecting their spouses and top aides.

Other governors on the list are Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State tate, Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State.

Oyo State former governor, Abiola Ajimobi also joins former Buhari chief of staff, Abba Kyari on the list of prominent Nigerians who have succumbed to the disease.

The state has recorded 438 cases with 357 recoveries and 3 deaths. Nigeria is one of the hardest hit countries in Africa with almost 28,000 confirmed cases and 628 deaths.

Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus worldwide, Nigeria has recorded over 25,000 cases with daily rise in the numbers.

The country was ranked third most affected country coming right after Algeria and Egypt and has also seen massive recoveries and some deaths.

Among the many affected citizens of Nigeria are some celebrities and high profile people, including five state governors. Below is a list of Nigerian state governors who have tested positive of the deadly viral disease.

On March 24th, Bauchi state Governor Bala Abdukadir Mohammed tested positive for Coronavirus. He was reported to have self isolated after having contact with the son of Atiku Abubakar who tested positive for the virus.

Malam Nasir El-Rufai, the state governor of Kanduna announced himself as the second governor to test positive for the virus on March 28. He disclosed in avideo shared on his social media page that he is responding to treatment and was in self-isolation.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde was said to be among governors who attended National Economic Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja where he met with other governors after which the Nigerian Governor’s Forum (NGF) advised its members who attended the Abuja meeting to go into self- isolation or undergo COVID-19 test.

On 30th March, the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde disclosed that he tested positive to the disease to become the third governor to have fall victim of the novel coronavirus.

Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, tested positive for the COVID-19 infection on July 8th. He made this public in a statement. It is believed that the governor is still positive to the virus.

The Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, became the fifth governor in Nigeria to have tested positive for COVID-19. The governor revealed this in a broadcast on June 30th, adding that he is yet to show any symptom.

Nigerian pastor, Chris Oyakhilome, has once again made unsubstantiated allegations on world events that leaves much to be desired.

The popular televangelist known for his miracle crusades shared an absurd interpretation into the world-wide protests that have ensued after a black American, George Floyd was murdered by white police officers.

Sharing his views on world events, Pastor Chris Alleges that the protests, and riots that have engulfed the United States in the wake of the murder of a black man, George Floyd, are not about black lives as they are been portrayed.

The revered pastor revealed that the protests are part of a bigger agenda to abolish the police setup and implant microchips into Americans and other citizens of the world with a view to controlling them.

In a sermon broadcasted across the world, the popular preacher explained that once the police have been taken off the streets, microchips would be implanted into citizens.

This would give the government all the information it needs about its citiznes and thereby make the rates of crime to reduce.

Why is that? (Do) you think it is limited to the Uni-finalsted States? No, it is not. Why are they doing it? It is part of the game. It is simply because they want to come in with the alternative method for security. What is that alternative method? It is total control- RFID microchip. That is what it’s about. And so, you are going to find people getting rid of their police and you will see cities experimenting one after the other. The cities say no police, everyone must get the microchip. And with that, you are going to know everybody. They will know everyone and crime will be controlled and they have got the media to hype it and in spite of its failure, they will praise it like the best thing in the world. That is what it’s about.”

Pastor Chris has been in the news lately for giving out ridiculous narrative on current events that has impacted the world which has drawn condemnation.

He had previously condemned the lockdown imposed on countries due to the coronavirus pandemic and subsequently condemned his fellow pastors who supported the measure.

The British communication regulator had him sanction after he also made wild allegations that berated the ongoing coronavirus pandemic as false and a ploy by world governments to install the 5G network which he seems satanic.
