Ghanaians condemned in unison the dastard killing of the over 90-year-old frail woman who was accused of being a witch. What formed the basis of our anger was the fact that the video captured a crowd of people who looked and cheered on without a smidgen of pity nor rushing in to help the nonagenarian as she was being plundered to death.

The last time a witch was killed in America was in 1693, a staggering 327 years ago. Even with that, the town of Salem in Massachusetts which is infamous for that, has instituted several projects in a bid to assuage those killed for the bogus accusation of practicing witchcraft.

Most part of developed Europe had their last witch hunting several centuries earlier compared to America. In Africa the belief is still here. Some perceived witches may not be physically killed but the economic, social and psychological deprivation is equally efficacious to push them to their graves much earlier.

Although I was equally angered by the killing, I was never surprised by the actions of those young stupid women who committed that despicable act. They reflected the general thinking of most of our citizens but those women took it a notch higher.

We live in a country where we have poor old women ostracized from their community and stripped off their inheritance before being dumped in deplorable “witch camps” in the year 2020. We live in a country where pastors have the effrontery to parade young girls on television as witches and we never condemn it.

Many Ghanaians ascribe their problems to the making of some people who are spiritually against their progress. They end up running from one church to the other seeking the panacea to their physical problems in a spiritual tandem.  This can explain why so many churches have sprung up all over advertising oil and holy water as the best antidote to drive away witches.

We have people not talking to their parents because a pastor or other so-called spiritual seers branded them witches. We have parents who have abused their own children because they were told those kids were witches. The community where the lynching took place is a Muslim one, meaning that weird belief is not limited to one religious group.

In a sane African country, that old lady should have been surrounded by children at her feet telling stories of the past and reminiscing a great life well lived. Instead, there she lay in her bloodied body like a rabid dog whose existence is inimical to the people around and so was smashed off.

The Gender Ministry is yet to issue a condemnation to that unfortunate incident. So-called human rights purveyors are looking the other way round while the story is yet to get the attention of civil society groups. These are people who are always quick to push a denunciation on issues of unimportant nature.

The superstition in the country will always be the bane of our development since we spend our productive hours praying against unseen spiritual witches to the detriment of economic activities. The quicker we do away with that stupid belief in witchcraft the better for us.

We need to join the rest of the world in pursuit of a civilization where superstition is relegated to the background and science and technology become our focus if we really want to have a country that is economically vibrant.

I must commend the police for their swift arrest of those women. It proves that you cannot physically attack someone because you were told he or she is attacking you, spiritually. They must be arraigned before a court immediately. Let them prove to the judge how they knew a ninety-something year old woman is to blame for their poverty-stricken lives.

Soldier on my dear old lady and all others who have fallen pathetically because of witch hunting. Your only crime was been born in a country where a large chunk of her citizens live in trepidation of some old frail looking women whom they believe have a meeting in the dead of the night to plan accidents, miscarriages and poverty.

I hope this general consensus brings closure to this issue. You have the right to believe in witches but that should not push you to attack those you perceive to be one. Our old ladies need to live dignified lives after living a difficult one right from birth. Long live my beloved Ghana.

The president of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has rendered an unqualified apology to his Nigerian counterpart Muhammadu Buhari over the demolition of a property belonging to the Nigerian High Commission.

A press release by the official spokesperson to the Nigerian president, Shehu Garba explained that the Ghanaian leader made a phone call to Buhari in order to calm diplomatic tensions between the two west African neighbours.

President Akufo-Addo also promised to launch a full investigation into the circumstances that led to the breaching of the security perimeter of the High Commission and subsequent demolition of an ongoing building project that was to house its staff.

It has also emerged that some people believed to have masterminded the demolition are in police custody helping investigators to unravel the whole unfortunate incident.

The president’s call is very timely to forestall any diplomatic fallout between the two countries as some Nigerians have also vowed to retaliate against Ghanaian interests in their country.

The Nigerian community in Ghana has criticized their host government of creating tension between the Nigeria and Ghana, something which is described as having the tendency to disrupt the diplomatic ties between the two countries.

The two Anglophone countries have been enjoying almost four decades of close uninterrupted collaboration and mutual respect after their relationship was bruised on two major occasions.

Former Ghana’s leader, Kofi Abrefa Busia in 1971 sacked most Nigerians from the country after accusing them of not abiding by the country’s immigration laws.

Nigeria retaliated twelve years later when the Shehu Shagari government also deported Ghanaians who had sought economic refuge there.

A joint commission was set up in 1988 to foster good partnership between both countries. Since then there has been no issue of a diplomatic spat existing between them.

Accra-based Neat FM has rendered an unqualified apology to renowned Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson over defamatory comments made on its platform by Mona Gucci, a self-declared queen of Ghanaian slay queens.

The actress-cum-producer had served notice to the radio station to retract the comments Mona Gucci made in an interview with Ola Michael on Neat Fm some few weeks ago.

Mona Gucci gave a tall list of female showbiz celebrities who she alleged to be slay queens. Yvonne Nelson’s name was conspicuously mentioned generating a storm on social media platforms.

She further alleged that Yvonne Nelson frequents Nigeria to warm the beds of rich men and then subsequently demand favours from them to sponsor her movies.

The actress took offence by the unsubstantiated allegations and wrote to the station through her lawyers to do the needful retraction or meet her in court for a defamation suit

The station has therefore done the honorable thing by apologizing and publishing on its platform the apology to the satisfaction of yhe actress.

Mona Gucci however refused to render an apology much to the chagrin of Yvonne Nelson thereby pushing the latter to pursue her suit in court.

Yvonne Nelson also fired a caution to media houses who would never project her good works but give their space for people to denegrate her.

She added that there she will not give room for the offending media outlet to render an apology but the matter will be settled in court.

Many are feared dead as robbers attacked a bank in Isanlu town, a suburb of Kogi State, and also opened fire at the towns police station on Thursday June 4.

Reports gathered say, they first charged into the towns police station first to open fire on unsuspected officers present, killing and injuring many. They then moved to the bank where they robbed and killed more people.

It is said that they operated for over an hour and succeeded in their raid leaving bodies scattered all over the town.

The state’s police spokesperson told reporters that the Deputy Commissioner of Police is on his way to assess the situation.

“Attacks on a bank and police formation was reported by civilians but I can’t give you details because the DPO on ground cannot be reached yet but the Deputy Commissioner of Police is on his way to assess the situation.”

Things did not begin right for Risky hit maker Davido for this month of June as the musician is said to have had an accident and ca only step out in crutches.

As to what caused his accident is a question for the gods but Davido shared an Instagram photo of him struggling to walk in crutch saying, “Welcome to june”.

His lawyer, Bobo F. Ajudua, also wished him a speedy recovery and thanked God there was no shows that his injury could affect.
